March 2019 update bulletin for the Hux Shard Paragraph 79 rural project.
- In addition to the structural frame, the additional glulam beams are added to define the distinctive shard angles in preparation for stud frame and plywood cladding.
- Phase 1 bituminous vapour control layer being applied to make phase 1 water tight.
- Phase 2 construction progress, the entrance hall and sunken living area are beginning to take shape.
- Phase 1. The gym area and western most end of the building taking shape.
- Phase 1 Shards have been plywood clad in preparation for application of external finishes, the phase 2 structural frame is progressing and the client can now see the entrance and the sunken living room area take shape.
- A test shard was constructed to allow the design team to understand the detailing of the zinc cladding seams and joints and the affect this has on the overall appearance of the shard. An invaluable part of the design process and an effective tool to convey the scale model that was taken to the planning officer at East Devon District Council offices. This helped illustrate material and colour choices.
- Phase 1 roof sections plywood clad in preparation for initial torched on bituminous vapour control layer to be adhered, firings have been added to create the falls necessary to drain the roof sections.
